CALL FOR PAPERS
JOURNAL OF NETWORK AND SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
Special Issue onNetwork Security Management
The explosive proliferation of Internet connectivity in the past couple of years has done much to extend networked communications to the entire world. Use of the Internet - the World Wide Web, in particular - has introduced millions to the potential benefits of networked computing for so many different aspects of our lives. Electronic commerce may just be the tip of the iceberg. Nevertheless, as with most significant advances, a downside exists as well. In the case of Internet connectivity, that downside rests squarely on the shoulders of network security management. Once connected to the world, network managers have a whole new realm of security threats to consider; and proper techniques for protection are often nontrivial. This special issue is intended to bring together a range of different perspectives and approaches to network security management. The issue will include papers with special attention to practical experiences in the management of cryptographic and firewall protections. The scope will includes, but is not limited to, the following topics: Cryptographic solutions to practical network security problems Authentication approaches for local and wide-area networks Internet firewall architectures, management, and support Network applications (e.g., electronic mail) security Instructions to Authors: Authors are requested to send five copies of their manuscripts, not exceeding 20 double-spaced pages, to one of the Guest Editors: Dr. Edward Amoroso Prof. Matt Bishop AT&T Bell Labs, Rm 8C-047 Dept. of CS, UC Davis 67 Whippany Rd, NJ 07981 Davis, CA 95616-8562 e.amoroso@att.com bishop@cs.ucdavis.edu Initial submissions should be sent via U.S. mail.
