CALL FOR PAPERS
JOURNAL OF NETWORK AND SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
Special Issue onService Management
There is an emerging trend which is shifting the emphasis from managing the technologies and resources to managing the services built on top of these resources. Opening of national and global telecommunications markets to competing value-added service providers, as well as the flexible and configurable networking technologies supporting a variety of quality-of-service requirements, are some of the main drivers of this ever-increasing need for service management. Users are currently more interested in the services provided to them than the underlying technologies offered by network providers. Down-sizing, outsourcing, one-stop-service-shopping, interdomain management, and virtual private networking are all concepts related to this interest in service management. The application of management standards to this problem space is currently the focus of international research activities. Furthermore, the increasing complexity of emerging broadband, multimedia and personal communications services, as well as the increasing customer demand for customer control and service personalization, require adequate customer service management capabilities. High-quality contributions are solicited for this special issue which intends to bring together the important topics and management perspectives by examining the current state-of-the-art in service management. The scope will include, but is not limited to, the following topics: * New service management architectures and their relation to management standards * Customer, service provider and network provider management systems' interactions * Integration of service management and network management systems * Service management aspects of Advanced Communication Services customers, i.e., customer profile management * Applications' quality-of-services management requirements * Management of Virtual Private Networks and their services * Management of multimedia services * Management of Personal Communication Services * Management of global services Instructions to Authors: Authors are requested to send four copies of their manuscripts not exceeding 20 double-spaced type-written pages to one of the Guest Editors: Dr. Tuncay Saydam Dr. Thomas Magedanz Dept. of Computer and Info.
