Abstract
A high level approach in network management is presented in this paper. The approach is based on a new network management model, named the K-model, and a network management specification language, named K30. This research has identified and defined two basic units of management behaviour, from which complex behaviour of management systems can be composed using the concepts of well regarded theories of concurrent systems. This approach formalises network management semantics and algorithms, and provides a system of formal specification for network management.

Keywords: Formal description technique; specification language; network management.
