Abstract
With the ever increasing volume of billing data generated by the telecommunications industry, it has become necessary for the telecommunications industry to revisit the whole area of billing data collection, starting with Automatic Message Accounting (AMA) data, and evolving to the future sources of charging20 data. The Automatic Message Accounting Data Networking System (AMADNS) supports the collection, processing, transfer, and management of AMA data from Generating Systems such as central office switches to an array of applications. AMADNS systems must be well-structured and flexible in ways that will support future generating systems as they are integrated into the various different networks being created within the telecommunications industry. This paper presents an introduction to the generic requirements for AMADNS as presented in the Bellcore Generic Requirements for the Automatic Message Accounting Data Networking System (AMADNS), Issue 1, Bellcore document GR-1343-CORE [1,2].

Keywords: automatic message accounting, distributed billing systems, data networking, billing system architecture
